So for all of you wondering if we were woken up in the middle of the night, sadly no. But don't worry! It's much better than that.
This morning we woke up, got kind of dressed for the day and then went downstairs for breakfast. Rob and Amy put out a really nice breakfast of local West Cork goodies and made us lattes. As we were sitting around chatting, the phone rings. Jokingly I say, "maybe a cows coming?!" Rob gave us a look, we all jumped up ran upstairs, grabbed our cameras and boots that we strategically placed before we went to bed and were out the door in two minutes. We FLEW to Farmer Nick's house and made it in perfect timing.
As much as I know all of you want every detail of seeing a cow give birth, I will spare you the details and you can see the pictures for yourself in the photo album. It was an amazing moment to be apart of.
There were two other calves in the pen that were born within the past few days and were also so precious. They were so tiny and playful! Alyssa would have been in her glories here.
The mama cow was so cute with her baby and we were able to pat and okay with the new calf within minutes. After about a half an hour we was clumsily walking around on her own. It was so special to see.
After a long time of playing, cow kisses, getting covered in cow poop, lots of photo opps, watching and learning about dairy farming we left the mama and baby. Only to be back hours later to milk the cows after a beautiful stop at a look out over Bantry, the water and the rolling green hills.
Later on in the day we headed to Rob's family's home and smaller scale farm which looked over the ocean. It was gorgeous. His property went on forever it seemed and when it ended it look like it was because it met up with the sea. Here we got to play with sheep and see more cows. From here we went back to Farmer Nick's and got to milk cows! Not only did I milk a cow, but for to drink milk straight out of the utter as it it got squirted in my mouth from the utter- yum...nice and warm.
From there Amy made us a beautiful dinner, we relaxed, made Banoffee pie, snuggled and watched PS I Love You. Does it get any more perfect?
Cheers,
Al

Suzanne Al ~ love reading your blog. Your writing is so descriptive, I can practically smell the peat, hear the cows moo, and taste the Banofee pie.
