Today I took an impromptu trip to Dublin. It worked out perfectly because two of my sorority sisters are studying abroad in London this semester and came to Cork for the weekend! It was such a nice surprise. We decided last night at around 11:30 to go to Dublin for the day- why not?
We got to Dublin late this morning and it ended up being a gorgeous day! A few showers, but that's nothing out of the ordinary. We hit all the big stops while we were in Dublin. We went to Dublin Castle, Christ Cathedral, Grafton Street, O'Connail Street, Temple Bar, Trinity College and the Guinness Storehouse. Taking in all that Dublin has to offer.
I found Dublin to be really similar to Cork, but on a MUCH bigger scale. As much as I loved Dublin and want to go back, I will always be a "Corkonian." It was amazing to see all of the buildings and areas that we talk about in my Irish classes as well as see all the famous sites. The churches and Dublin Castle were beautiful, especially because a lot is in bloom and the sun was out.
Our last stop before the Temple Bar area was the Guinness Storehouse which was much more impressive than I thought it was going to be. It's HUGE! It is also a beautiful building and museum, I still can't believe how big it was. We walked through the museum, did a Guinness tasting, and poured our own pints behind the bar! The top of the Storehouse is completely class and has the most beautiful view of Dublin, we took our pints that we poured to the top and looked out into the city. We finished our day at a pub in Temple Bar for dinner before we left the city.
Days like today are the reason why I love studying abroad. Everything is so easy going from transportation to schedules, so casually going to Dublin for the day is manageable. I'm going to miss the spontaneity that studying abroad and Ireland have to offer me everyday.
Cheers!
