What a great day! I had such a good time. I'll start with last night. I met a guy from Toronto - Nicholo. (no not a prospect!) we went for a walk and then watched a movie in the movie room. Well, i fell asleep. So tired. We decided to meet to go to the Skytower the next day. I went to bed at around 9:30 and slept till 9:30 the next morning. Didn't even here my other roommates come in and go to bed. I had a room with 2 guys and 1 girl but today 3 other guys checked in. The beds are pretty comfy but then again, anything is comfier than a 13 hours plane ride!
I invited along one of my roommates, Fabian from France to come with us to the Tower. (still no for him too!) The 3 of us checked it out. It was cool. I was all pumped up to do the Bungy jump but decided that I would just wait till Queenstown (had nothing to do with my fear of heights!)
After, Fabian and I decided to go to the Supermarket (lingo..hahaha!) We didn't really know where it was but knew the general direction. We first decided to find a place to eat. Everything was really expensive. I would have paid a bit more to try something new to eat but he was on more of a budget so Burgery King it was! After the market we came home. (haha home...i mean the hostel) I bought some groceries, enough to last me the rest of the week.
I wanted to go shopping to find a skirt and a new pair of sandals but ended up on a Ferry to Devenport. It was this town on an island 12min away from Auckland. It was great! I loved it! I met a kiwi doctor and IT guy and they both told me of some places to check out. Really friendly people. I immediately went to the beach when I got there. First time at the ocean here! It was quite warm. I walked along the beach and found a bench and just sat there and relaxed. Auckland is such busy city, it was so nice to get away from that. As I sat on the bench, I looked around and finally realized that I was away from home, in another country and was so thankful and lucky to be here. I went through a lot of crap this past year and thought I would never get the chance to do this trip. But there I was sitting on a bench on an island overlooking the ocean in the warm summer sun, healthy and happy. It was a perfect moment of self reflection.
Anyway, I continued on my walk and stublled across a Cricket game. I stood and watched for about 20min. It was great! I continued on and walked through the streets. I was going to stop and have something to eat but decided to just come back cause I didn't want to be walking downtown in the dark and it was starting to get a bit cool. I am so glad I went to Devenport cause it's so quiet there. And I am glad I went alone too. It was nice hanging out with some people today but I like doing things on my own at my own pace.
While at the ferry dock waiting for the ferry, i decided to get an ice cream cone. I heard the ice cream is really good here. I got a kinda called Hokey Pokey. A New Zealand thing. It's vanilla with honey chunks. I like to call it Sweet Love. It was so freakin' good. I have decided that my treat for walking soo much (i have never walked this much in my life) is a Hokey Pokey ice cream, and I can treat myself whenever I want to!!
Tomorrow I am going to take the ferry to another island...can't remember the name of it. I plan to do some sea kayaking and lay on the beach. I guess there are lots of beaches there. Can't wait!!!
For the record and to answer the most commonly asked question...There are HEAPS of good looking men here! (heaps...thought I would test out the lingo!) And it's even better that a lot of them can't even speak English! hahahaha! kidding!
I hope my journals aren't that boring for ya! I am trying to keep them exciting but really, you just need to be here. Words can't even describe how incredible it is and again, how thankful I am to be here.
