We had to get up really early today to go to the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM). They were all really nice and knowledgeable and taught us all the pros and cons of doing business in Thailand. They also gave a lot of career advice and it really helped me with some decisions I've been pondering over to start a career. This trip was really what I needed and I'm so grateful to my professors for all the people they've helped us network with. Also, the lady in charge of operations gave us a serious talk about buying knockoffs. She told us we are promoting organized crime if we buy them which supports drug trafficking and terrorism (besides ripping off the companies that have the originals). I hadn't bought any knockoffs yet, but that was what everyone thought was acceptable to do.
After that we went to the crazy mall I talked about yesterday to do research for one of our group projects.I went shopping in a cheaper mall just to buy some clothes since I didn't bring enough.A lot of us have realized that it's not that cheap to go shopping here. Some things are cheaper but not cheap. You have to search really hard to get a deal and quite frankly I'm better at finding a deal in the malls in the U.S.The lady from AMCHAM told us to buy things like Thai crafts that aren't rip-offs but still things you can only get here. I did get fitted for two suits today and it was really exciting. I spent a good deal of money but they are custom tailored and the colors and styles I picked out. At one of the really fancy malls we got ice cream fondue from the Haagen Daas store. It was really cool but all that sugar made me have a breakdown before dinner. Oops.I knew it was going to happen sooner or later but I've been doing well otherwise. I'll get some pictures up soon.
