I had my first surfing lesson!! Went to Surfer's Paradise and booked in for a 2 hour lesson and when I arrived the 4 other people meant to be sharing my lesson had been travelling together and pulled out so I had my own personal surf instructor-yay. Matt told me he was a professional surf video maker and sponsored by reef and that I would definitely be standing at the end of the 2 hours. I wanted to believe him but I know what my balance is like I've tried snowboarding- one of the first things he said was surfing is just like snowboarding so I was pretty sure I wouldn't pick it up. That's why I was amazed at after only 2 attempts I was managing to pick up the waves and body board and after being shown how to stand up I managed to do it a few times! It was very addictive, probably made even better by the fact the water was warm. Definitely going to have another go when I get back home, might even purchase a board...
Renata heard that the Uni of Queensland climbing club climb down by Kangaroo Point, a load of cliffs ideal for climbing with over 300 routes, and so I pretended to be a student at the Uni and got in some free climbing instruction and free climbing. It was a bit hard in worn out trainers but great to be climbing again, kicking myself I didn't chuck in my rock boots to go travelling with definitely will next time!!
Today I went to Springbrook National Park which is a couple of hours drive from Brisbane with Bushwacker Tours. We got to see the Natural Bridge which is a huge rock bridge made by the waterfall carving out a whole underneath it, you can walk under the bridge at night and see all the glow worms light up there. Our guide took us on a short walk pointing out the nature around us including hoop bark which actually peels its bark off in hoops that you can see on the ground and my favourite was the trapdoor spider tunnels, once he pointed out one you could see there were dozens of them- quite spooky really seeing as they're very poisonous! Next we got to see a beautiful viewpoint looking out to the Gold Coast and you could see the skyscrapers in Surfer's Paradise. Our last bush walk was down to some waterfalls and we got to see a Bower bird nest complete with bits of blue that the male bird had woven into the nest to attract a female. My favourite part of the day was the visit to the Gloworm museum where you can see gloworms 24/7 as they are covered in a special tunnel and you can walk through and see them just like stars.
