So I left Canberra after visiting the Canberra War Memorial with Lorna and struggling to get everything back into my rucksack which seems to be shrinking..ok the contents are expanding!
Flew with Quantas to Brisbane airport, nice flight only 2 hours. Landed and caught the airbus to Roma Street where I was meeting Iliana, Shay, Manuel and Jaret. It was so good to see those guys!! After lots of hugging and a short taxi ride later we were all reunited together in Renata's flat in the West End. Plans had been made and it was off out into town for drinks where we met up with Al and Andrea. After enjoying the live music in one bar we quickly moved onto the Irish pub across the road, not sure of the name but probably Murphy's Bar, it had delightfully sticky floors but a great drunken irish folk singer with people on the dance floor too! The next place was where we ended up til 6 in the morning doing karaoke! A latino/african carribean bar with amazing dancers and music also had a karaoke bar attached, Renata and I downed our margaritas and chose our song. We fancied a bit of Shakira but when they called my name and we eagerly jumped on stage 'Ice, Ice, Baby' came on we realised very fast that there was indeed another Katie in the bar but it was too late we had microphones in hand and the music had started so began our lame attempt to keep up with the rapping parts and Renata's input of 'vanilla' it was pretty awful. Neither of us knew the words or most of the tune, so bad that people came up to us after and gave us a slap on the back for giving it a go...turns out this karaoke place is where people who can ACTUALLY sing come to show off. Eventually Shakira did come on and yet again we were foiled as Rena knew it in spanish and I didn't realise how fast Shakira actually sings, another failed karaoke attempt our only witnesses were Jaret and Manuel thankfully!
I think by the time we'd walked home and got into bed it was 6am!!
