Yay! Today is my Birthday :-) received lots of cards from the UK which was so nice and made me smile and miss everyone very much. Tonight everyone is going out on a pub crawl for my birthday, can't wait!
This week has flown by! So far we've had a Mexican dinner party at Renata's place, both me and Renata spent last Sunday recovering from bad karaoke and too many cocktails. I joined in with a free tour around Brisbane, I did one in Sydney and had kept my eye out for one here, it was good (not as good as Sydney guide) but very informative I got to teach the guys where Lamington cakes come from: The governor Lamington had told his cook to prepare tea for suprise guests and the cook could only find stale sponge cake which she disguised with a bit of melted chocolate and coconut scattered over it! And why there's so many weird sculptures all around Brisbane: because each building has to put money into Brisbane art so all around the city builders install art as part of this new law. Got to see the Brisbane Beach, it's in South Bank and is 100% used as a normal beach complete with lifeguards, right in the middle of the city! Met Emma on the tour and helped her win a free pass for the Pub Crawl they run every Thursday, Friday and Saturday that's where we're going tonight!
Renata and I also visited the Lone Pine Koala sanctuary and I finally got to cuddle a koala and the photo to prove it! Great place to spend a day, we saw loads of koalas including lots of mummies with their babies, water dragons running around the place, we got up close and personal with the kangaroos and one even kissed Renata's nose! I got my lunch stolen my a suprise attack from an emu who poked it's head around the bench and dove into my sandwich box to eat my crisps!! It was enormous! Then we got to meet the birds of prey and a gorgeous barking owl called 'Woof'. Saw a sheepdog show and lorikeet feeding- one even landed on my head!! We had a great time wandering round and had to be kicked out at closing time as we were still trying to get the cockatoo to talk to us.
