My birthday was amazing everyone came out and it was wonderful, we started off in an Irish pub this one was actually called Murphy's Bar where we each got a free pint of Tootheys New beer- I quite like it. Next stop was a short walk away, I can't remember the name, but in there we got a free shot of something that tasted a lot like baileys. The next place wouldn't let Iliana in as she didn't have ID so we skipped it on principle and ended up heading straight for the karaoke bar on the pub crawl...oh dear! I ended up singing with Renata again this time we did a little better with 'Summer of '69', the boys even all got on stage to sing Aerosmith 'I don't want to miss a thing' it was spectacular and the best birthday treat. Iliana and Renata's idea of a birthday treat involved a little glass of tequila, salt and lime- urgh regretted that in the morning! The last place was just a dance bar and then it was off home for the night. Saturday was useless, both Renata and I wanted food but didn't want to walk to the shop. We ended up walking to the shop for bread only to say b***** it lets go to a cafe instead! Great call! We decided to go to the local farmers market and pick up delicious veg and fruit but hangover kicked in as we were dragging overselves back to the flat with bags of heavy food..urgh not good. Result in the evening as we popped over to see Shay and Iliana as they ended up cooking us delicious Spag bol, love Shay's bolonaise!!
We'd all wanted to do a day trip and decided to spend a day on Moreton Island not too far from Brisbane. Only problem was in the morning our taxi driver drove me and Renata to the wrong train station- he took us to Roma St instead of South Brisbane, so when Iliana said on the phone come to platform 1 we got there to find a bus not a train!!! Seeing as we had a ferry to catch across to the island we were a bit panicked, it worked out in the end that no one had got on the train so we grabbed the nearest minibus taxi driver and got to the ferry port with 10 minutes to spare- ideal!
The island was gorgeous, beautiful white sands with some very cool jellyfish washed up and typical biologists we've all got several photos of them! We took a walk to 'the Desert' and it is exactly as it sounds, people were there sandboarding. We had our little picnic complete with crunchy sand-wiches and minus the sandboards threw ourselves down the sand dunes. It was even warm enough to get in the water for a swim!!
