I mean this in the nicest way possible, but how glad I am to not be returning to Red Frog today. It was a rewarding internship in ways, but I am glad it is over. Instead I am looking forward to the challenges and learning experience from my new job in Wisconsin. I am heading up there today to check out HQ and learn a little about the land. Diving back into the state of mind to work with kids makes me a bit nervous, but it is work I enjoy and am naturally good at. The truck is mostly packed and I have a few quick things to do before I depart. I'll be heading to Medford, WI and hanging out in my tent for about a week. Not only have I never been that far north before; I have never been to Wisconsin period. So, I am looking forward to the geological features and changes in comparison with Arkansas and New Mexico which are my two favorite places for outdoors so far. I have done a lot of reading online about the climate and so forth and it is safe to say Wisconsin is cold with very mild summers. I will probably freeze until I acclimate; however maybe my winter stint in Chicago will help me adapt. Chicago had a mild winter this past season but it was still worse (temp wise) then what I am used to in Arkansas.
I spent most of time last night amusing myself by telling Jaclyn about the bear and wolf population in Wisconsin. There are a LOT of bears and timber wolves are thriving in the region thanks to conservation efforts and re-entry programs. Though I don't want to meet these guys in a corner I am excited to be in their presence. I have a healthy respect for wildlife and a deep appreciation for their territory. Any of you ever see Grizzly man? Animals should be viewed from a distance and not messed with. A wise man once said you don't have to outrun the bear (or wolf) you just have to outrun the guy next to you. I suppose that is true but the wanna be super hero inside of me would rather risk a fight to do death for the pure chance of being able to tell about it one day. That being said, I am an exceptionally fast sprinter.
I think Chevrolet should take my truck and use it for a commercial. It is a 1996 stepside S10 Ext Cab with a 4.3V6 and Automatic. Now this truck is in great condition minus one dent I put in the tailgate. It has been really taken care of by me, and my father who had it before me. It doesn't use a drop of oil or tranny fluid and has never broke down on me. Now here is the kicker 220,000 miles on it! I have considered parting with it a few times to get an SUV or something a bit roomier for my gear, dogs, friends, etc. I am almost to intrigued by it to part with it. I wonder if I can get it to 300,000 miles without any major mechanical failures? I paid $2500 cash for it, it's nice, good shape, plenty of power, and is paid for. Gas milage is not too bad, so I think economically I should drive this thing until it is no longer able to go on it's own power. Enough about my truck though.
Sorry the blog is not more interesting today. I am hoping to have more to report tomorrow morning after I experience my night in the tent and do a little meet and greet today. I have to stop at REI on the way and hope to find some decent backpacking footwear for hopefully around 80 bucks. all my old ones are not fit for long treks anymore.
Enjoy your morning coffee kids.

Jaclyn Kray Love the part about you being an exceptionally fast sprinter! Haha I would have to agree though. I remember Barb and I watching out the window when Nick threw a snowball at you. I think that is when we all learned you are a very fast sprinter.....sheesh! lol
