Just woke up after my first night in the Northern Wisconsin woods. I have pretty good equipment with me and slept really well. Last night it sounded like there was a 6'2" hoot owl right outside the tent. I love hearing those guys. I got a little recording of it and it was super cool. I fired up jet boil stove and made some tea to enjoy while I listened to the owls talk about the latest Chicago politician scandal.
I was instantly humbled by the staff at New Vision Wilderness. These guys and girls know their stuff and are highly skilled in the out doors. I am a business major and self taught in kayaking, fishing, and backpacking. These people start fire by hand, know every knot and trap in the book, and can build a shelter anywhere out of anything. So, I am a little intimidated and nervous. It's a summer job so I really want to pick up skills as fast as I possibly can. I hope to craft my own nun chucks soon.
I was thinking if I could get a bear into a head lock or arm bar then maybe I could win their respect. I'm already making up new games to play. My favorite one is called punch a bear and run.
I miss Arkansas right now, it's so warm down their and everyone is on the water. I miss Jaclyn too in Chicago even though I've only been away one night. Today marks the first day of training and I am really excited about learning more of what makes wilderness therapy work. I believe being out in nature makes one focus on their self, and I have faith in this program. My only current concern is gaining some kind of schedule so I can coordinate things with family.
That's all for now kids.
Enjoy your coffee.

Jaclyn Kray I'm glad you stayed away from the bears while you were out there. I was getting worried you were going to take one on. =/
