This week we have been starting work at 10am so a bit of a lie in every morning makes a huge difference to the day.
Today we continued the painting on the building project until we ran out of paint. Because of this we started work on a room we have not been in before, which lead to us finding loads of old furniture and mattresses stuffed with hay, all of which had to be moved in the midday sun. There was also a bed in this room so we decided to donate it to the family we have been helping, the family in which the father had a stroke. The only way to get the bed to their house was to carry it, a full heavy metal double bed, 2 miles, in the really hot sunshine. It was pretty tiring to get the bed to them but was worth it in the end to see how happy the family were as it meant they no longer had to sleep on the floor! As they family don't have a telephone we had to just turn up with it and it was an amazing surprise for them and were so appreciative.
In the afternoon i went to work at the CASA project (after school club) and was able to help a girl with her reading and writing. Although I understood little of the story she was reading, I was able to help with the pronunciation (in my Geordie Spanish) and when it came to writing I was able to help with the handwriting, or caligraphia. I then helped one of the younger kids to learn to write his name, until he got bored ad became El Mono (monkey) and began climbing all over me and swinging off my arms! Working with the kids definitely gets better every time as they are more open and friendly every time, and it helps me with my Spanish loads, meaning today I was a able to give instructions to the kids ad actually able to help with the more complex homework. All in all a really good day, however I was left muy cansado, and in need of a rest!
