Adam and Charlotte's Great Escape.
Hello we are back so soon writting another postcard to keep you all updated on our travels.
We just stopped over in Mersing for the one night at the Embassy Hotel, we were drawn to this hotel by its name and it was kind of basic, cheap and came with lizards. Mersing was a friendly little place, not a great deal there but it was nice to walk around. The following morning we took a ferry to Tioman Island, this is the biggest island in this group.
The ferry jouney wasn't too much hassel but we left 45mins late and had a bit of confusion where we were ment to get off the boat. Out off all the islands beaches we had to choose the one that is hardest to get to called Juara beach. From the main port we had to take a 4 x 4 wheel drive there which was certainly a drive and a half. We drove through the jungle up and over hills and through muddy puddles we could tell why it was so expensive to get to this little bay. Once we got there it was like having our own private beach and apart from hikers from the other village and singaporians we were the only people there. We stayed for 4 days in a little bunglow right on the beach, the thing that caused us to leave after 4 days was the infestation of ants and the lake of variation in food. The beach was beautiful and quiet but the sea wasn't as entising as the Perhentian Islands. Basically it was a lazy 4 days lying on the beach as there was really nothing else to do until the rain regularly came in the evenings.
We had to take the 4 x 4 back and wait for the ferry which was 2 hours late so no change there, apart from our new experience of copping with pushing singaporians, so we are now sharpening up our elbows.
From Tioman Island we spent another night in Mersing before heading down to Johor Bahru.
Take care,
Ad and Charl xx
