Today we had lots of fun at school celebrating Chinese New Year. We made some fried rice in our classroom and ate it with some really yummy sweet and sour pork that one of our other teachers made for us. It was delicious. We did our best to scare away the man eating monster Nian by running around the oval shaking our noise makers and red streamers and as a surprise Mrs English let us each have a sparkler. We didn't see the monster so we must have done a good job....

This afternoon we flew from Mexico to China. We are here for Chinese New Year. This is a celebration held every January for 15 days and is a chance to repay debts and gain good luck to start your new year. At the celebration the people try to scare away the man eating monster called Nian. They do this by wearing red, making lots of noise and letting off fire crackers.
