Today we had lots of fun at school celebrating Chinese New Year. We made some fried rice in our classroom and ate it with some really yummy sweet and sour pork that one of our other teachers made for us. It was delicious. We did our best to scare away the man eating monster Nian by running around the oval shaking our noise makers and red streamers and as a surprise Mrs English let us each have a sparkler. We didn't see the monster so we must have done a good job. We tried to have a go at the game Chinese whispers - but it was a bit of a disaster. The message went from The great wall of china is very very big, to chinese dragons are very very big then by the end it was chinese races are very very big. Mrs English thinks we had better keep practicing that game. Through the week we made lucky red envelopes with good luck messages and lucky money in them for our friends and today we each gave these out. We finished off our Chinese New Year celebration in traditional style by participating in a lantern parade. We had so much fun this week in China and can't wait for our next adventure next week in South Africa.

Mrs Horsnell Hi 2E and Mrs English. It sounds like your visit to China was amazing. I went to China in June this year but I didn't seem to have anywhere as much fun as you guys did! Here are a few facts about China you might not know... * Red is considered a lucky color in China. At one time wedding dresses were red. New Year's banners, clothing, and lucky money envelopes are still red * Ice cream was invented in China around 2000BC when the Chinese packed a soft milk and rice mixture in the snow * China is the fourth largest country in the world. China is sometimes a day ahead of the United States * I am really looking forward to hearing all about South Africa. Anyone's mum making milk tarts???? Love Mrs Horsnell xx
Mrs English Hi to the Bostocks - thanks so much for commenting on our blog. We first got our idea about making a blog when we read about your great adventures around Australia. We hope you are still having a fun time and we are sad to hear that your trip is almost finished. You will have to get home soon before Chelsea starts prep next year. We will be big grade 3ers next year - and we hope Chels enjoys school as much as we do. Love from Mrs English and 2E (PS Mick is at home doing all of his jobs that Mrs English left for him) Mrs Horsnell - we always love hearing your interesting facts about our countries. We are glad you don't have to have snow to make icecream any more - because we all LOVE icecream and we all no the snow would melt quickly in our hot Mt Isa. We hope to see you at school soon.
Mrs Craft & 2C Crew Sounds like you had lots of fun in China. You did a good job at scaring away the monster because it would have been scary to see 2E disappear off the oval. Make sure you check out our blog as we have been to a few different countries. If you come to 2C, be careful not to get mummified. We still have lots of toilet paper left!!! Talk soon Mrs Craft and 2C
