This week we flew to South Africa to participate in an arts festival which is called Aardklop. We were so lucky that one of our teachers at school is from South Africa and was able to come in and teach us all about the Aardklop.
The festival lasts for a week and is held in the town of Potchefstroom. Our teacher Mrs Swart is from the town so she knew lots about the festival. She bought in lots of art works from South Africa to show us the types of things that we would see.
While she was with she had some very clever ideas. She got one of our students to read us a book in Africans because this is the language that he speaks at home with his family. The book was one you might know - SPOT the dog goes to school.
We learnt some African drumming beats and each of the three groups drummed these on their desks and it sounded like we had african animals all around us.
To finish off our time with Mrs Swart we got to eat some yummy South African foods - Boereworsh which is a sausage and some Melk Tart - which is a yummy dessert.
Throughout the week we did some beading and paintings that we could sell at the Aardklop. We have some pictures to show you of our work on our blog.
To top off a great week in South Africa we also had a visit from some of our parents who are also from South Africa. They taught us how to count in Africans and shared some african biscuits and lollies with us.
We had so much fun in South Africa - and next week we are off to ITALY.
Bye for now,
Love 2E travellers.
