After a few hiccups today we got on the road about 3:30 in the afternoon. Considering all the time that it took us to set up the dolly to tow a car that we ended up not being able to tow, we left in good time. Not to make it easy on our stress level, the weather was predicting severe thunderstorms with hail and 60 miles per hour winds in the afternoon.
We purchased a tow dolly to bring our car along on this trip, however it turned out that all three cars we own do not have enough clearance to be put on this dolly. In past times I would have been very upset about the whole situation, however I am not. Even though I did extensive research, I guess it was not enough. The product website does not mention it, and I did not run into any forums that did.
It rained as scheduled at 1pm. We let that storm pass, finished hooking up to bring the scooter instead and left. While on the road in Pennsylvania, we received an alarm from the weather radio the second set of storm was behind us about 20 miles. I am grateful we got through that area just in time to avoid it.
We stopped for the night around 9:30 at a service plaza in the Ohio turnpike. This plaza has a dedicated RV area with hook-ups. There were about 8 other RVs there for the night.
I did some research and reserved a car for Yellowstone. I will have to figure what to do about Badlands tomorrow.
