The long awaited day finally arrived. The anticipation had been building up and it felt great to finally pull out of the driveway.
We headed out yesterday around 6PM. We stopped for gas in NY and put enough just to get us far enough to be able to fill up in a cheaper state, in this case Ohio. We drove until pretty late for about 371 miles. We spend the night at a Travel Plaza near South Vienna, Ohio. We did not intend on driving so much that evening, but we needed to stop in a place where we would be able to pull out the slides since our parents would be sleeping on the pull out sofa bed.
The travel plaza had a huge lot and we found a spot wide enough towards the back. I was the first one up as usual and I am blogging while the rest are showering and getting ready. Yes I said showering, that is the beauty of the RV, we have all the comforts of home while on the road. We will have breakfast and then head out.
How does it work? There is a tank that holds water and supplies it filtered to the whole RV. There is a water pump that runs off the batteries that pumps the water throughout providing water pressure. There are holding tanks for the waste - grey holds faucet/shower water and black holds toilet. The RV has a propane tank that runs the refrigerator, the stove/oven, the water heater tank and the heater if needed when it gets cold. A set of batteries separate from the chasis battery can power the electric part of the refrigerator, the water heater starter, lights and water pump. Then there is the generator, we can turn that on and have power as though we are plugged in, it recharges the batteries and it will run all outlets, TV, microwave and ACs. All we have to do is ensure we take off with a tank full of water, filled propane and our batteries charged and generator in working order and we can do anything from anywhere.
We are scheduled to arrive in Saint Louis later today where we will rest and visit the Gateway Arch tomorrow.
We are going to stay at Queen Casino accross the river from Saint Louis, I am sure my father in law will pay them a visit.
