Where has one left off...little adventure with a friend....all off the cuff but sometimes they can turn out to be the coolest, weirdest thing to have been done. So what was this random expedition that one went on? Well........ A trip to Okains Bay, which is a totally awesome little place on the Banks Peninsula.
It was a hell of a trek mind to there a good drive, and it is not a good idea to do such a drive in a non air conditioned car.....as oh dear lord it gets super hot. It was like a sardine in a can being boiled. But spirits were high and little songs got us through. But it was worth it as the place was lush, it's nestled in a little valley, when I say little thats a slight underexaggeration. Its a camp ground nestled in between pine trees which have a lovely smell to them. The best aspect of the campsite, literally a 30second walk to the beach! Which I might add has some good surf...one just had to dabble in such things. Lovely jubly. Was really cool actually. Anyway the campsite was luxurious in comparison to some in the delightful homeland, there are fridges and everything on site...the showers are still something to be desired but well you can't have everything I guess. After getting ones bearings it was time for the tent erection process, oh the delights of such a job....It went up easier than expected actually and its a rather spacious tent so one was feeling postive about being comfortable. After the process it was time for a well deserved break and a beverage sampling session. Job well done. Our beverage sampling was scuppered however by a rather sudden windy spell, the tent was a noisy receptacle at this point so we seeked shelter in a nearby camper who we had befriended, much to our delight! One went with a couple of beers so as to say thanks of course :). Also a really cool event happened whilst at the campsite a lunar eclipse...I wasn't too sure that it had occured but there was a distinctly odd sky and odd colouring going on it all felt a little paranormal. But cool all the same. Then it was a headlamp switch on to read a couple of chapters and see if any shut eye could be got...the wind was going to be the biggest problem one thought.
Well I never.....a good nights sleep, rather comfy in the tent, little bit toasty in fact, better to get up then sit out the continual warming of the tent. A day of chilling, surfing and a little bit of walking around to discover some more little nooks and crannies hidden away in the valley.Everyone we met was really pleasent and cheerful and always willing to lend us a tea towel which we had forgotten so we couldn't dry our utensils! That proved a giggle, also when the seagull stole part of our dinner, a veggie sausage, darn that bird I was waving the spatula like a crazy lady! Oh well we still had some left, so wasn't the end of the world.
We were formulating a plan to take down tents, pack the car and travel back in the quickest time possible...could we beat our time getting there.....We should be in with a chance becuase to get there, there is a hill that is 8km long and it's a beast....not a car friendly one let alone a cycling friendly one! Was low gear all the way in the automatic. So hopefully we could gain speed on the way down and make some time...it was a challenge and we chose to accept it! Maye if there had been a river we could of called on Hugh Pugh and used a Coracle to get us home! We shall channel his spirit into us instead. God speed and we hoped for our sake that it wasn;t going to be roasting. We passed a couple of woolen sheep and our hearts went out to the little guys, they must of been sweating like I don't know what in that wool. Poor things a.
You will be pleased to hear that we beat our record, it took us less time to get home, whoop! Thankfully, we drove with all the windows down and the wind blowing in our hair......mainly becuase we couldn't do it with the windows up, we did think that the car would veer off the road at one point as the gusty winds were proper strong....think the tents in the boot held us on the road. Rock on! Super exciting times. All in all a random, yet good trip. Good lead up to xmas was like a mini festive break. Am still not feeling the xmas vibe as well it's a little odd in a hot country and well I don't think they put as much emphasis on it as we do in the UK.
But well I send plenty of festive cheer back to you all, hope the freezing temperatures haven't caused you all to be scrooges and utter Ba Humbug! Enjoy the snow, I'm still super jealous ans I will keep you updated sometime in the New Year as I have a festival to attend over New Years and there will be no modern technology for a good while. So shall blog soon and well:
