Hey guys, sorry for the delay has been a busy time. OK lets see what i have done since i last typed....loads I reckons......
Waitomo caves, went caving with some glow worms a 5hr expedition into the dark realms under the ground. It was totally cool, you don a neoprene outfit, always dazzling! You get your abseiling harness prepared as that is the only way into the cave, then you basically get a hard hat with a spot light on the front and well we are all set. Basically you get to climb waterfalls, swim under ground and be amazed at the glow worms, was actually the best experience I have had since I have been here. WAS also educational, why do glow worms glow i hear you ask becuase of their pooh. YEah there you go know you know so if it ever comes up in a quiz you will be a winner! WAs awesome experience totally cool was adrenaline fuelled after that one. Adventures under ground you just can't beat it! Stil smiling after that one.
Right well during my revisit to Taupo in the middle of the north island one did a 19km hike across volcanic terrain, this was also the mount doom that is seen in the lord of the rings. It was an epic hike I can tell you. But the views were good so it was worth the sweat and tears! Hahahaha. No blisters though so that was a result! What I forgot to mention was that we were waiting for 2 days for the weather to clear before we attempted the crossing thankfully it sorted itself out. After that it was a brief excursion out to New Plymouth by a lovely bus, however the views were not that spectacular as the weather was crap and was drizzle for all the eye could see! OH well atleast it's another tick in the box of places visited. Then it was a quick turn around and a hop back onto the bus down to wellington to catch the ferry back to the south and head for the national park.
Abel Tasman NAtional PArk - Is an immense place. THe plan here was to venture into the park and camp out after some hiking then kayak back home after. THe only way into the park is by boat, and well the boat ride was anything but smooth. Blinking massive swell and the boat we were in a speedy little number did nothing for m y nerves, I had white knuckles. It only lasted 10mins until we got out at the beach but dear lord it felt like a lifetime. BUt well it was alright. WE landed at a beach which is actually famous as we were told, LOndon underground has a picture of the beach on the walls, and well it was a lush beach really cool sand and just beautiful. Serene place to be honest. BUt there was no time for hanging around we had to hike to a camp which was about 13km away...all this long hiking a, don't know why it possesses me to do it. BUt well it's basically a walk through the park admiring the views along the way and meeting fellow walkers and plenty of germans who are everywhere I might add! Really cool walk, managed to survive without getting bitten by too many sandflies which is always a good thing as they are horrible little things! Itchy little tykes! ANyway when our camp was reached, which was basically when the tide came in surrounded by water and was a stones throw to beach, amazing obviously. It was a little munching and then to bed as we had to kayak all the friggin way back tomorrow! Oh whoop I hear you cry.WAs a darn good sleep, sleeping bag amazingly warm and well no bugs just the sound of birds in the morning and the waves lapping the shore, was cool. RIght well anyway we set off in the kayaks paddled for what seemed like an eternity, had a few breaks and well just saw more of the scenery in the park which didn't disappoint, something I would recommend to anyone who camae here.
NO aching muscles the next day from that one either, my back managed to survive no bruises as I had 2 fleeces for padding! I was the joke of the day with that!
JUst in WEstport now travelling west, going to head to Franz JOsef over the next couple of days to do some glacial hiking, looking forward to that. WIll update with pics when more time is had.
