Zoe and Ed's Travels
Hello,
We are in Hyderabad for 5 days - a slight over-estimation on our part in terms of how long we'd need, but we've booked a flight out so we're stuck here till Wednesday!
Having said that, today we've found a nice Internet cafe, after quite a long search, and so have spent the afternoon in here, after having enjoyed Death By Chocolate in the adjoining coffee shop.
Golconda fort is the only sight in Hyderabad actually worth seeing (although we might be being unfair on the museum which we decided not to go into because they wanted us to leave our cameras in a wooden draw in the 'security' hut). It is a 16th century ruined fort just outside the city. Other things we have seen are: Charminar, which is a large arched building across a road junction, which took all of 5 minutes to look at - apparently you can go inside too; the bazaars around Charminar, which are full of nothing you'd really want to buy, at prices you wouldn't trust; and Ramoji Film City, which I apparently got strangely excited about, but turned out to be rather dull and very little to do with Bollywood (I blame the Lonely Planet for suggesting that connection).
Still, Hyderabad is a pleasant relief after the nightmare that is Bijapur, our last port of call. We are still enjoying curries, although they can cost as much as 80p here, a small fortune (Zoe - hear the yorkshireman's call of "how much?!"), whereas we were paying more like 40p in previous places we've visited since Goa.
On Wednesday we fly up to Amritsar in Punjab, the centre of world Sikhism and home of the Golden Temple. After being quoted stupid prices for flights by Indian Airlines we managed to find an Indian budget airline with very reasonable charges.
We've uploaded the first photos of India: Goa is finished but there are more to come of the places we've visited since.
Byeee.
