Zoe and Ed's Travels
We are in Amritsar, having flown from Hyderabad to Delhi, spent 11 hours at the airport, then flown to Amritsar. Still, it was quite cheap; we flew with India's budget airline, Air Deccan (just like Easyjet really, no allocated seats, or free drinks). We visited the Golden Temple today. It is really beautiful. The central temple is marble and the top half covered with gold. Inside is just as impressive, full of intricate patterns on the walls and ceiling, and impressive chandeliers. There is constant chanting and music, as the holy book is read out, which is very restful to the ears. Around the central temple there is a pool, full of fish, where people bathe.
The Punjab has influenced Indian cooking a lot; this is where tandoori food, naans etc come from, but we have been eating them all over India.
We are planning on heading off to Dalhousie in Himachal Padesh tomorrow, a hill station below the Himalayas so its going to be cold! We already had to find our fleeces from the bottom of our rucksacks last night as it is a bit cooler in Amritsar at night.
