Cambodia 20-26 Oct
The first place in Cambodia we visited was a place called Siem Reap, we stayed in a cute little Guesthouse, only problem being we shared our room with little Ghekos! Siem Reap was a nice little town, the poverty is very sad to see though, you get chased along by children wanting to sell you things. It's awful because they are so cute and you can't help but give in sometimes, I bought a friendship bracelet from a little girl, bless her! We went on a boat trip which took us on the huge lake which people actually live on. The houses are crazy, they are on stilts coming out of the water, it was great to see. We also had a walk round the market, the markets have all kinds in and everything is so cheap, just don't like the food sections much, the fish are still alive and they flip about, its horrible. We have uploaded some photos.
The next day we visited Angkor Wat. We actually got up at 04.30am to watch the sunrise, we were so tired but it was well worth it. Apart from the fact that our camera broke just as we went to take our first photo, good timing! Thank goodness we were on the tri pwith the other guys so we could get the photos or there would have been tears! Angkor Wat was a fantastic building and so atmospheric, especially with the monks wondering around. We also visited Bayon Temple and Ta Prohm Temple which is where Tomb Raidor was filmed and incidentally one of our favourites. The tree roots have grown around the temple, its crazy!
The next day we moved on to Phnom Penh which is the capital of Cambodia. We didn't really like it here, its very dirty and has quite a dodgy feel to it. Not recommended to walk round on an evening. Anyway, from here we visited the killing fields and S-21 prison which was very moving, we were all quite depressed at the end of that day. Again, more poverty in the city, when we went out for dinner on a night we would take our left overs and give it to the children on the street, you should have seen their little faces, it was awful.
All in all, we really enjoyed Cambodia, saw some great sights and met some great people.
Missing everyone loads and hope to hear from you all soon.
Em and Phil xx
