Vietnam 26 Oct-2 Nov
Our first stop in Vietnam was Ho Chi Minh City which was crazy, the roads are so busy and crossing them is ridiculous! We liked Ho Chi Minh it had a nice feel to it, the people were nice but again, quite a few beggars and people trying to sell you things by using their cute little children which is heart breaking.
We went on a trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels which is where the Vietnamese went underground when they were under attack from America. It was really cool actually, we went into the tunnels which were very hot and dark and so small, which is crazy because they have actually been made slightly bigger for us fatty westerners! We really have no idea how they lived in them for so long. There was also an American tank still there from the war which Phil had a bit of a play in! It was a cool day but we were sick of being on the bus, especially when we were getting the overnight train that night as well.
Our next stop was Nha Trang which is a much quieter place with a beach and a welcome break from being in the city. It was the first time we had been on the beach and also the first time we got caught in the rain! So we didn't get much chance for any sunbathing. We didn't do much here to be honest apart from go to some mud baths! You have a bath in the mud and then soak in the mineral water, it was really nice, our skin felt great when we were finished. We had a bad experience when walking along the beach one afternoon. People in Vietnam don't appear to be shy about stopping on the side of the road for a wee, no need to even try and hide apparently which is a bit gross. If only that was as gross as it got...as we are walking along the beach there is a woman crouching in the sand and we were like, 'is that a bare bum?!!!!' and oh my god, yes it was! We still actually wondered what she was doing until she started to wipe her bum!!!!!! ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! It wasn't like the beach was really quiet either, there were other people walking along and she was right in the middle of the beach, disgusting...
Now we are in Hue which is our least favourite place in Vietnam so far but quite a nice place. It didn't get off to a good start when we arrived at the train station and our pick up wasn't there. I was very tired and getting really mad with the men asking if we wanted a taxi, it's hard to politely tell someone to flippin get lost and no we don't want a taxi! Anyway we eventually manged to get to our hotel when the resevation hadn't even been made! Lucky there wasn't a single other person actually staying there (or so it seemed), we got a room so we didn't ask any questions! We went for a cyclo ride around the city yesterday and had a visit to the market which was good, everything is so so cheap.
We are leaving Hue this afternoon for Hanoi, we arrive at 04.30 in the morning which we are really looking forward to...! Not!
Bye for now and we'll post another journal from Hanoi. XX
