We set off early again to try and beat the crowds queuing to go to the top of Eiffel Tower. We still queued for half an hour but were entertained by talking to a couple of Aussie's from southern NSW, they had been travelling around UK for the last 6 months funding themselves by pet sitting.
It was again another beautiful day perfect for seeing the view from the top. There was a lot more security than 11 years ago since we last went up, all bags were checked and you had to walk through an airport type scanner.
The view from the top was fantastic, although you could see a typical big city smog haze in the distance. Having viewed the city from all sides on both levels we took the lifts down again for our next sight seeing for the day.
Using our train pass we made our way up to Montmarte the artisen area just below Sacre Coeur. On the way up to the top of the hill are colourful tourist shops, coffee houses and resturants of all types.
The basilica Church of the Sacred Heart (Sacre Coeur). is the highest point of Paris and standing at the top of the steps in front of this magnificent white ornately adorned church that looks out all over Paris. The Eiffel Tower and the golden domed roof of Napolean's tomb can clearly be seen. Inside the church is equally as ornate as the outside, the large domed ceiling has a beautiful painting of Jesus with his disciples. You just have to sit and take in the splender of this magnificent hand painted scene, the more you look the more extraordinary things you see.
We next walked down the hill to a small square that was a hive of activity with artist's and their easels drawing and painting any of the tourist's willing to pay. There are many street stalls selling lots of arty merchandise and places to eat and drink to sit watching the bustling scene.
We returned on the Metro to our hotel for a short R and R before finding somewhere near to the river for dinner. Not such a good find tonight the food was good just a bit expensive.
Our last trip for the day was the night trip on the River Seine, this didn't disappoint, beautiful moonlight evening, with all the city lights and spotlights highlighting the old buildings and the Eiffel Tower soaring into the night sky it all looked just fantastic.
Picture above is of Sacre Coeur, note the blue sky!!
