Another lovely morning a bit cooler than yesterday but sunny and I think will be warm once the day wakes up.
Not long after we went to bed last night there was a horrible scraping/screeching type sound, this morning our very entertaining Cruise Director, Arno told us how the bridge of the boat, caught under a particularly low bridge last night due to some hydraulic problems. He assured us that there was no danger to the boat and things would carry on as usual.
This morning we were due to arrive in Regensburg and have a walking tour planned, due to our problems of last night our arrival was delayed until the after lunch. The walk was again most enjoyable in the sunshine walking around the historic town of Regensburg dating back to 1135, with a guide giving lots of interesting tit bits of information, some factual and some local legend.
Early this morning we left the Main/Danube canal and have entered the Danube River, the medieval city of Regensburg sits on the Danube River and as you approach, the impressive cathedral dominates the skyline. Charming narrow colourful streets leading to quaint squares with tiny interesting shops entice you to explore this enchanting town. There are quite a few very tall narrow towers built in the town, it was thought by the wealthier citizens of the day if they built tall it would show how rich they were.
We've had a bit of a slower day due the bridge problems delaying us, but I don't think any of the passengers have minded, we appreciated the rest!! After dinner tonight we were all going to a Beer Festival in Vilshofen but due to our delay an alternative has been arranged with the entertainers coming on board while we keep sailing.
The picture is of a magnificent monument we passed after we had left Regensburg.
So ends another beautiful day in paradise!!
Chat again soon.
