We woke this morning to brilliant sunshine and today we are having a walking tour of Bamberg later today.
After breakfast we had a talk from a Dr Marcus Urban on how the Main/Danube Canal was built and developed. We both found this very interesting and quite an engineering feat.
Later in the morning we were shown another German tradition Bavarian "Fruhschoppen" which is traditional German sausage, pretzels and smoky beer. Many members of the crew had dressed in traditional costume, and good fun was had by all!!
We arrived in Bamberg just after lunch and the coaches were already waiting to take us into the UNESCO World Heritage since 1983 town. From the town centre we are going on a 90 minute walking tour of this ancient historic area.
Through the centre of town runs the Regnitz River, separating the "old town" from the "new town". Many old building can be see, one dominates the skyline that started out as a Monastery and is now home to aged pensioners at a very reasonable cost. Bamberg is also known as "little Venice" for its many building forming the river banks. We had free time at the end of the tour to wander on our own around this pretty town, shops were open and there was a fresh food market happening in the market square.
Back to our waiting coaches the last one to leave at 5.45pm as the ship was sailing at 6.00pm wouldn't want to be left behind!!
Another beautiful dinner then an early night, in bed by 9.30pm both feeling tired tonight, 7 weeks being on the move is taking its toll.
The picture is of Bamberg showing "Little Venice".
Chat again soon.
