We're here!!! What a day. We left Dulles at around 9:50 Monday night. We flew 7 hours to London, then instead of catching a cab, we caught another flight. Wes disclosed that our next destination was Dubai. I was so excited, because you know the Sex and the City girls went there. I decided to study up on Dubai culture, sights, and shops. I had basically planned out our whole itinerary for our visit to Dubai by the time the 7 hour flight there was over. It was around midnight in Dubai when we landed and I was ready to catch a cab, a bus, a....., oh no, wait, there is another gate for a departing flight and we are going there. No Dubai for me, but who could be disappointed when Wes revealed that our actual destination was the Maldives. I was so excited that I didn't sleep at all on the 4 hour flight to Male, Maldives. The airport is on this amazingly small island that consists mostly of a runway. We deplaned right on to the tarmac, I felt like Michelle Obama, of course I did my presidential wave as we came down the stairs. After customs, outside to a bus, right, a bus....oh yes, a bus, but a bus that took us to a sea plane because our island Medhufushi is only accessible by plane. So exciting. The Maldives are made up of thousands of tiny islands, only a few that are inhabitable. The flight was amazing, like nothing I have ever seen before. We had a splash landing and then were met on the floating dock by the staff here at Medhufushi. It was a surreal "Dharma Initiative like" experience. It's a jungle, a beach, an oasis. It's paradise!
So, to sum up: 18 hours of flying, 7 hours of layovers, and 8,941 miles to get to paradise :-)
