It is a special place. We can't get over that. Cinque Terre is like no other and we have been enjoying its charm, beauty and unique feeling. We haven't explored all five towns but tried to savour each one and take it easy. We took a little hike to capture the famous view of Vernazza from above, climbing the steep stone steps that wind their way up, up, up. And what an incredible view! The town is notorious for its Oceanside harbour and the rocks its little colourful homes are built on. So pretty! Later we ventured by train one stop to the last town called Monterosso where we wandered the little streets of the old town and enjoyed a lovely little lunch from a "gastronomic" which is less touristy and the food has a very local fresh taste. I had the most incredible lasagne and Chris had a beautiful fresh seafood salad, full of the local fruits of the sea. We found ourselves soon by the beach and laid back enjoying the view, the sounds of waves and the peace. It was a bit too cold to swim and the clouds come and go here. But our feet tasted the sea and we couldn't leave without getting them wet!
Later back in Vernazza we enjoyed a lazy happy hour on our little deck looking over the sea. Fresh olives, local sweet strawberries, cured ham and little crackers along with a Prosseco to toast our moms, as it is Mother's Day tomorrow in Canada.
The sun came out and we enjoyed a beautiful view on the deck of a restaurant perched high up at the edge of town. It sounds like we eat a lot here....and yes we do! When you have access to the fresh ingredients and local flavours why wouldn't you?? We are getting our steps in here for sure, as everything including our apartment is high up above the town...there are stairs everywhere here! The three days we have spent here have been healing, restful, full of beauty. We are up early to prepare for the train to Bolonga today and Looking forward to seeing where Chris studied in University!
