We have gone from one scenic vista to another are are totally enamoured with Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coast of Italy. We arrived by train in the afternoon and were warmly welcomed by our host Christian...a lively and friendly local who knows everyone in town. He introduced us to a sommelier steps from our room with a view who poured a tasting of local and regional Italian wine while we took in the view. Our terrace looks over the sea and is stunning. We are staying in Vernazza which is the prettiest of five towns hanging on the edge of the sea here, each distinctly unique and colourful. You can hike from town to town here and we did one section today which was breathtaking. You can travel from each stop by train or trail which is typically high and rugged. Our trek today was two hours of hiking thru terraced vineyards and stunning views of the little towns of Cornelia and Manarola. We hopped aboard a ferry which dropped us on the rocky shore of the town and we took a bus to the very top. The views are worth a million and the memories are overflowing. The downside was that the rest of the journey was downhill, and our knees are paying the price. But upon returning to our terrace for a view and the sounds of crashing waves makes the taste of our cheese, salami, olives and local strawberries incredible, along with the local red. We are hoping to lay back and take it all in now with some reading, writing and relaxing. There is a real laid back feeling here, and we like it!
