Alex lost in India-plus skips, blind leading blind
Hey everyone,
Well I'm starting to get a little more brave! Learning that in order to survive here you just have to flow with the hecticness and don't try to swim against the general horn honking flow! The placements are still going well on Paediatrics. A little heart breaking at times but I suppose it's to be expected. Now getting used to staring, dark glasses helps. Today went exploring, a little shopping, then sight seeing. Went to the Lalbagh botanical gardens, which were stunning- the quiet contemplative stroll was hampered slightly by every five minutes being asked if I would pose in a photo. Had rule no to the sleasy groups of men but yes to familys and females, very very odd feel like a weird kind of celebrity. Am getting so ace at eating with my hands, Granny you'd be so proud, don't worry I keep my elbows off the table as I do it. Anyway, beautiful gardens have been experimenting with An's old school camara which means in a couple of days there'll be an album of out-of-focus too dark pictures of flowers. Then I went on to the bull's place (see pic) this is a bull thats about 4mx3m a made of one piece of granite rubbed with charcoal and oil, the priest was very nice gave me a string of jasmine flowers and poked me in the forehead with red stuff. Joke aside a really special place and the temple next to it, can't remember the name but will put up some pics. Did I mention I have developed a taste for guarva with chilli powder, India does strange things to you. Back in my back alley internet place, I like it better, no Americans and coffee which you ask for three times and then comes cold (swanky place in town centre) only children who ask me were i'm from. Meeting some interesting people, Sunil Sood, a patient at st martha's who had lost touch with his old friend the director of the guardian, have a contact number for him. A nurse from tamil nudu who is teaching me Hindi and of course the patients. Tomorrow will explore so more and maybe go to the gandi market with one of the doctors, there is a festival monday I'm looking forward to. Well enough from me, take care all and update next week.
