Alex lost in India-plus skips, blind leading blind
Dear Everyone at home and those of you in various corners of the world,
I hope that you are all safe and well. Managing to find a computer with internet bit of a mission. Very strict stern man at library say `no personal use computer, no email only work.` He then proceeded to watch me, obviously i have a distrustworthy face, maybe it is because I is white, so instead in little internet place down alley opposite hospital with six men physically staring at me, sorry if ramble, this makes it hard to concentrate!! Well landed fine in Mumbai and then on to Bangalore, just.. a little lost on the way but people are so friendly and kind here (except libraian!) that no shortage of help. The shanty towns are hard to stomach, remember feeling a million miles away in geography GCSE, at MUmbai there were children playing in a tree 10 metres away from the runway! Abi`s cousini came to meet me at the airport, the man is a legend Abs and can literally not help me enough which I am eternally grateful for. He`s helped me so much! Everyone is helpful, although everyone also stares, I understand as I have seen only two other white people since I left the airport but it`s a little disconcerting. They have organised me two different placements in paediatrics and surgery. Paeds is really good, be it a different world to back home. The docs and nurses are really helpful and translate to help me do histories and examinations! I`ve made some mates with the junior docs and eat with them in the meths, all really nice, have got to the point where we take the piss out of each other so I know I am making friends! Slowly getting used to eating rice and curry with my hands! It must be the right, not the left, same goes for passing things (oh great they`ve put on some sleasy elevator music bollywood style!) tougching your mouth, this is due to the face you your arse with your left. So glad I brougth toilet roll and only had to adhere to the first part of this tradition! Room is nice if a little basic (will and ben at least I have one!) I do wish the water heater would work though, however I have found a bucket of water over the head first thing in the morning deffinately deffinately wakes you up! There are two chipmonks and two gekkos that live outside my room. I`ve nicknamed the chipmonks will and ben as they`re rude little b******s, but comforting to have around however you never know what they`re going to do next! Had a slight falling out with one of the gekkos after finding him in my toilet however now established the bathroom is my territory! So far in my battle against the mosis I am an outright winner, strategic defences are fully funtional and I am bite free. Loving working in the hospital here, except the staring, get on best with the children as there is no language barrier, however the mothers smile and wave when I am on the wards as well. The cases here are so different! It`s not all happy though, many can`t afford treament which costs the price of a pint! And we lost a child yesterday with TB and one of the docs got a needlestick which she finds out the HIV/Hep status of the child this afternoon, christ I hope she is okay! Anyway seem to make the kids laugh here as much as home, think I mus have a funny face. The roads here are absolutely insane, auto ricksaws are an experience. Food is amazing, clothes ridulously cheap. Oh god, sorry I`ve written an essay!! Okay well a few personal messages to people and I`ll stop taking up your time also does anyone know the director of the guadians email address, some old geeser he used to know her and needs it.
Will up date next week.
Love you all and miss you more
