Day 5 November 20th
We woke up today and again it was raining, it rained all through the night, hard. Today we decided to pack up and check out of our hostel to try and find something more in the city so that we could possibly enjoy some of the night life. So we arrived at the Shibuya station and put our bags in a locker and set out to get some food and to find a hotel. We found a restaurant called the freshness burger which seems to be a chain here. We thought we would try it since we know what the pictures represent. At this point, we just are not that brave to try and order something that we have no idea what it is so we are sticking to what we know. When it comes time to pay I realize we have no more cash and so we have to explain that we will be right back, that I have to go to the ATM. Luckily there was a women who spoke english and she translated for us. So I left Brandon and booked it across town to find the nearest Citi bank. A half hour later after getting lost in various back streets I find my way back to the restaurant where Brandon and my food are waiting. The food was okay, we probably wont eat there again. I had a chicken sandwich that was wrapped in fat...not sure what that was about but it was absolutely disgusting! So after lunch we set out to find a hotel. Yuki told us we should try and stay in a love hotel which are cheap. Love Hotels are hotels that are rented out by the hour or by the night for local Japanese to meet up with their girlfriends or for married couples that live with their inlaws to get away and have some private time. So anyway we thought we would check it out. In Shibuya there are a plethora of these hotels and you walk from one to the next checking out available rooms. They have pictures posted of what they offer and what is available and you just select what you want from these screens and check in. The attendant is usually behind frosted glass so that they do not see you and so it is very discreet. We wandered around for awhile checking out the various options only to find out that they do not like to rent by the night or they do not like to rent to foreigners; we still are not quite sure. So the cheap hotel was a bust and we had to find something else. We ended up finding a decent hotel near the station that had a single room. Here you are charged per person to stay somewhere, not by room so Brandon checked in so that it would be cheaper and then he had to sneak me into the hotel which was pretty easy. After dropping off our bags we decided to go check out Shinjuku again since the rain had stopped. Once again we got lost in the enormous station and it took awhile to get our bearings and to find the street. Once at the street we walked around some of the video and toy arcades. They have large arcades filled with nothing but games for winning stuffed animals or other trinkets...remember the ones where you had to fish out the prize. Well, here you can have all the junk you want if you enjoy those types of games. We spent some time then browsing the book store trying to get some travel information for the remainder of our trip. At this point it is raining again so we headed back to the hotel after getting lost in the station again; long enough for it to stop raining. So we decide to check out the Omantesando area again and to get dinner their.
