April 13- Brook - Today was an individual vocational day. I was placed with a Nurse Practitioner who worked at the University of Auckland's School of Nursing as a lecturer and at a primary health clinic in the Southern part of Auckland. The morning was spent meeting some of the faculty at the School of Nursing, learning about the latest population based research outcomes, learning about the advanced assessment tools and resources for Nurse Practitioners.
The afternoon was spent at a primary health clinic in a lower socioeconomic area in South Auckland. Here I followed Sandra as see saw her patients for the afternoon. Her first patient was actually quite ill and after her assessment, then the intern's, then the overseeing GP, the decision was made to call an ambulance and transfer the patient to Middlemore hospital. This was an interesting experience as I was able to see how these type of patients are transfered and learn about the limits of a primary health clinic in an urban setting.
The rest of the team had their own individual vocational days today. I'm hoping everyone else had a good day!
This evening we are all getting together for a team meeting. Hopefully we will have enough energy to be able to complete our individual and group slides for our presentation at the district conference.
