April 11 - Brook - Today was a vocational day organized by the Rotary Summerville Howick club. We went to Kidz First at Middlemore Hospital. Here the CEO of the Kidz First organized an individual vocational day for each of us. I spoke with a couple of pediatricians doing research one was looking into RSV rates in New Zealand which are apparently very high, he was very interested in Bethel, Alaska because apparently they have the world's highest rates of RSV. He was interested to hear that in the Yukon my experience with RSV was extremely limited. The second researcher discussed with me the value and practical application of using customized fetal growth charts. This just confirmed the information that I had already received from the University of Auckland's vocational day. I will return home with this information and use it in my clinic and present it to the Nurse In Charge conference for Yukon nurses. Hopefully it can be introduced Yukon wide and will help to improve our practice and care of unborn babe's. After this the Rotarians treated us to lunch and had some time with us for a recreational afternoon. However, after having hosted many GSE teams in the past they thought they would see what we were interested in doing instead of planning something elaborate. So the group decided that none of us had had any time yet in New Zealand to do any shopping for friends or family. So the Rotarians bravely led us to Sylvia Park for some retail therapy. Thank you - this was appreciated!
That evening we went to do a presentation at the Howick club for a combine Rotary club presentation.
