Again, it's been a while since I last wrote and a bit has actually happend this time.
I finished work last Wednesday and we went for kayak tour around Bay of Island. It was supposed to be a "night kayak tour, under the stars around a waterfall". I guess we might have had high expectations because we thought it would be a tour in a kayak from a point A to a point B, but instead we went by boat for 20 minutes to a small waterfall where we paddled around for an hour while it was still sunshine. Madaleine and I walked through the waterfall and that made the tour for us, otherwise it was a bit s*** to be honest.
Anyway, after we had been on that Kayaking tour, we made our way to Trevor's place, in Matauri Bay. Trevor was a security guard in Orongo Bay Holiday Park, who invited us to his place for a few days. We were well looked after and it was nice to just relax on the beach, eat, nice, home cooked meals and hang out for some days after we had finished work in Russell. Matauri Bay is a beautiful place with nice sandy beaches, very clear water and not too many tourists. We stayed there for 4 nights and then we headed off towards Kerikeri to pick up Frank (another friend from Orongo Bay Holiday park) who wanted to come with us to Cape Reinga. Origianally we had planned to spend the night in Pukinie but Frank suggested that we stay in Kerikeri because he know people with a hostel and he stayed there while he did fruit picking on his last visit to New Zealand. It's a working hostel so all the people staying there are on long term and working in the area. Scotty and Haley, who run the place where lovley and welcoming towards us, so welcoming that they made som barbeque for us. We had a lovely evening with drinks and great company- a night to remember.
Early Monday morning we started our journey up north. Before we visited Rainbow Waterfall off Kerikeri. Our next stop was Cape Reinga, which is as far up you can get. Cape Reinga offers beautiful landscapes of a mixture of white sandy beaches, blue crisp waters combined with mountains - I will put some pictures up next time I get a chance to go online. After that we went via some massive sand dunes towards Aihpara where we are now and will spend 2 nights. Tomorrow we are going horse riding on the 90 Mile Beach. We are all very much looking forward to that and until next time I say: Bye bye!
