We finally made it to Queenstown, but before then we did some other activities in Milford Sound. As it really is a fiord, and it is quite scenic, but from the water, we decided to go on a cruise. We got picked up from the hostel at 9.30 and got driven to another place to change bus. It was a little ridiculous because we could easily have walked. However, the bus was full of tourists, mainly from Asia, and the journey lasted for about 3 hours. During that time we did several stops, but the nicest was probably Mirror Lakes, where, as the name suggests, the scenic views of snow covered mountain tops and blue sky lay as a very clear mirror over the water. We also visited a water stream and some strange rock formations. We finally reached the wharf, where our cruise would depart from. Inside the wharf were millions of tourists and my excitment disapeared a little, as I felt it like a big tourits trap already then. Our wessel was very big and could easily have fitted at least a good houndred people. Once on board, people where lining up for their lunch packs as if they had never seen food before and I don't know, maybe I had my expectations too high. Milford Sound itself was not very impressive and I felt a bit disappointed, but that might have been of the hole experience which felt way to commercilased. It was still beautiful and the scenery was pretty, but I got the feeling of 'is this it' after. However, I wouldn't have had it undone.
Anyway, we left for Queenstown the day after, in the morning and that drive took about 2 1/2 hours. The scenery between Te Anau and Queenstown is magic- it changes from snow coverd mountains, to green moutains that look more like hills, along with beautiful lakes and incredibe views. When we arrived we went for a stroll to check out the town and went to book something that was one of the reason for Queenstown- Bungy Jump for Annica and the nevis Swing- the largest swing in the world. It is low season here now because it is kind of in the middle of summer season and ski season, so we were able to go already the next.
The bus ride took about 25 minutes, but I swear it felt as if it was hours, because both Annica and I was very nervous for what we were about to do. When we arrived Newis we got told that the bungy jump was first and even though I wasn't jumping I would still be able to come with Annica to watch. We went out on a gondola which took about 3 minutes, out on a platform kind of thing- 134 m above the ground!!! I could tell that Annicas pulse was pretty high and was still rising. But when it was her turn to jump she did it! It was really cool to watch, if a little bit scary, but she looked very satisfied after. My pulse was rising slowly as I realised that I was to do something way out of my comfort zoon. I am not really keen on the bungy jumping so I had decided to try out the Newis Swing which supposely is the largest swing in the world and that takes swinging to a whole new level for me. I first had to walk out on a swing bridge to get to the platform and once their I got my harness on and I was so scared I am surprised I could even stand.
I walked out on the platform, got hooked up and was asked to sit down. Then they pulled me out over the edge a little bit (160m above ground), then waited to be 'released'. Released in this sentense means a 70 meter long drop and my fear soon became a thrilling sensation of pleasure and excitement. I can easily say it was one of the coolest things I have done. We went A.J hacket and they were good, played cool music and gave you an experience for life.
