Today is "ag day" yes that's right surprisingly I didn't have a clue what anyone was talking about for weeks either ag means agricultural day. And what do Kiwis do on this day they take their farm animals into school for judging - it's like Krufts but with cows, sheep, goats and chickens (simples!) Now I wasn't expecting many animals as Horsham Downs is a small school oh! but how wrong I was there were about 75 calves, 50 sheep, 20 chickens and 4 goats (obviously not in fashion as a pet this year). Ryan and Jade were showing a chicken and a lamb but unfortunately neither won any prizes. This was because their parents had not researched this enough and did not realise it was not about the kids and the pets but about showcasing your skills as a farmer. They had stupidly just taken the first chick and lamb offered instead of checking out the pedigree and parentage. They had also not read any books on walking lambs or calves (parents who'd have them!) They have now learnt their lesson and will be far more prepared for next years ag day! And finally the star auction prize at todays "ag day" an "Electric Fence" just what every home needs (you would not believe the interest shown in this fence!)In order to cheer the kids up we took them to Lazerzone (I have never been to one of these before so was a little apprehensive). I should have realised I would love it as it is a competition, unfortunately Jade and I lost to Nick and Ryan so we will have to have a rematch sometime soon.
