Hello again!
Going to start by apologising again. I re-read the last blog and realised it was pretty illiterate and rushed so very sorry for that. This one however (!!!) will be no different so there :P
So we arrived in Surfers on Thursday, a week since we left England hurrah! Left Brisbane with wind and torrential rain, arrived in surfers with crazy heat, glorious sunshine and not a cloud to be seen. Ah it's at times like these you just wish you were back home. Yeah... Marched off to our hostel which was considerably easier to find as it was infact next door to the bus station and checked our stuff in. Get to the room AND we have a tv, a fridge, only 4 beds, an ensuite bathroom AND a pool/spa view. WOW it was pretty impressive and a big improvement on last hostel. Oh and out the front of our room (thats the opposite side to our BALCONY) we had tennis courts. Fab. didn't spend to much time hanging around though, there was much sunbaking to be done. Headed off to the beach - all of 5 minutes away - and tanned it up. Lovely. Then decided after about 20 minutes that it was indeed quite hot and maybe we should seek shade. Wandered around the shops for a bit, had a look in amazing tacky gift shops and generally felt quite chuffed with ourselves. Went back to local hotel bar and drank a pint before having a nice early one.
FRIDAY: Weather is hideous and all smug feelings gone. Checked weather forecast - wind and rain for the forseeable future. Fandabidozzeeee. As it pained us to be outside we thought we'd trek up the 20th tallest building in the WORLD. Awesome. The lovely young man on the desk warned us visability was quite low but given the forecast, not much was gonig to change anytime soon! Took us approximatly 43 seconds to get to the top floor (number 77) so we were paretty tired at the top!!!! Ha thats a lie, we took the fastest lift in the universe. Views were pretty impressive and only slightly spoiled by unruley Aussie school children. WE do have phtots to follow. Then figured that as we were Bristish the next thing we should do is a take a dip in the sea. I'd liek to add that the weather we were experiencing was the tail end of a cyclone but hey, like I said, were british! Took a very long route back to the hotel (2 hours long) and found the TV. Spent the evening watching The Simpsons, Neighbours, The Biggest Loser and more Simpsons. Class night in.
SATURDAY: We have been in Australia a week yeeeeeaaaaaahhhh! And no major incidents to speak of! Weather is fabulous again so we head to the beach nice and early armed with a lifetime supply of factor 30. At around 3pm we decide that we have baked enough anfd head back home. Cue horror in front of mirror at our horrendous sun-burn. Todd with his multi-tonal legs and Verity with burnt buttocks. Happy days! Our plan of drinknig in the evening is quickly scrapped when our sun-stroke like symptoms set in. b*****......
SUNDAY: MARK ARRIVES!!!!!!!!! Our new roomy arrives and it has to be said he is a little bit of a legend. And he's a Yorkshire man! Verity heads off to the shops first thing to invest in industrial strength arftersun whilst hugging walls to avoid all sun rays. We decided that today is the day to do some washing (of the clothes variety, obviously our bodies have already been washed)! Find the laundry - yay- and then think we shall head to the pool as it is reasonably shady and deserted - no one to mock our British tans. Jump in pool, pool mostly evaporates. Oh no.... many sniggers from balconies above....... Spent the evening introducing new roomie to the wonders of Australian TV and then head to downstairs bar to make the most of our free drink vouchers - hurrah, saving money at last!
MONDAY: Today we ventured off to Burleigh heads and my oh my wasn't it lovely! Only about 20 minutes down the gold coast but what a difference! The beach was near deserted and the sand was so fine it actually squeeked. I'll be honest, this only amused me for about 2 hours :D Carefully sunbaked making sure I was mostly covered and then we set off to find the little national park. National park was actually very cute and had amazing views all down the Gold Coast and even featured some wildlife! We saw a kookaburra, a crazy demon snake and even the odd spider or two! Headed nack to the beach and then went home. Drank many a beer and goon while watching a rather pretty storm outside. May have had a small accident when the thunder clapped :D
TUESDAY: WHAT A DAY!!!!!!!! Started off by touristing it up and gonig on the Aquaduck - the first amphibious vehicle in the Gold Coast. What a claim! Was much fun and got to see all the Surfers sights. Verity even drove/sailed it. Check me out! Following these thrills and spills we headed to the beach once more to work on the tan. Tried a spot of american football in the sea and had many a laugh when little Todd got wrestled to the ground by evil wave. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Laughing was quickly stopped when the poor boy popped his shoulder out. Oh no. Spoke to the lovely lifeguard who couldn't tie a sling and he sent us to the medical centre. Walked to medical centre where the doctor there decided it would be best to head off to A+E. Cue Italian type taxi driver. Bumpiest ride eveeeeeeeeer Nevertheless he did manage to cheer Todd up with his anecdotes about the last time he went there. He was left waiting for 4 hours without painkillers. GREEEEEEEEEAT. Lovely man. We got to the hospital and were pretty much rushed straight through. After visits from approximatly 50 medical type people an about a 90 mintue wait the lovely doctor informed us that the best way to put the shoulder in was to give Todd some pain killers, leave him awake and then wriggle it in. Rather you than me buddy! Apparently the doctors were involved with a far more interesting case hmmmmmmmmm. Thankfully Sheila (I'm not joking) managed to find someone else, pop young Todd to sleep and wacked it back in :D Finally got back via pharmacy and smooth bus journey and began to celebrate St Paddys day! The plan to only have one didnt last longer than 10 minutes and wasn't helped by Mark challenging Verity in a "you'll never finish that" type manner. Ha how wrong he was. Arrive back at hotel; beer and (veggie) kebabed up at about 1 am just in time for 4 hours kip before we catch our flight to Sydney pheeeeeeeew. And the really good new?! Mark is coming with us as well yayayayay!
Photos are coming soon i promise! xxxxx
