Ok, firstly I must apologise for the super late writing of these. Much has been happening and I feel very disinclined to pay some of the prices internet cafes are charging, but I found a cheap one - hurrah!
So Brisbane...
Well we arrived at approximatly 10:30 am after possibl6y the most un-enjoyable journey of my life. The 6 hour wait at Hong Kong was brain numbingly dull, only made worse by the fact that I paid 4 GBP for a sandwhich (complete with green eggs and brown lettuce) at the only place I could find by our gate. I then discovered after our gate chage that if I had walked 30 minutes to our new gate before the dreaded sandwhich buying, I could have got a lovely pub meal for the same price. Never mind! Onwards and upwards. Flight to Brisbane was gonig swimmingly 'til the final 3 hours which I spent attached to the plane toilet vomiting my guts up. Fabulous.
Anyway arrived at Brisbane, collected belongings and headed outside to the train station where we were greeted with 30 degree heat. Marvellous. Quick strip show entailed while Todd and myself sorted our clothes out :)
Got to Brisbane central and after wandering around with our backpacks for near an hour we found our hostel - Base Embassy. And it wasn't half bad. A tad cosy perhaps with us and the other 6 chinese but hey, there were beds! We had a wander around, which thankfully didn't take too long, indulged ourselves in traditional aussie grub - potato wedges - and then pretty much fell into bed as soon as we got back.
SUNDAY: Headed off to Moolloolaba to catch some rays. Lovely beach and the trains to get us there ran on time. Prefering Aus to England already! Could only stay for a few hours though due to Sunday bus and train times but definatly worth it. Got back, made some noodles for tea, had some beers (not Fosters), met crazy Cairns man who claims he knows EVERYONE in the travel industry and picked up some great tips. Bed time!
MONDAY: Had a walk over to Southbank. Was very nice, with a cool outdoor pool thing and man made beach. Lovely views of the city skyline and bargain museum. Museum was infact free and pretty useful. Gave great insight into the history of Quensland and all things Aussie. WEnt back in the evennig and shared some beers and even drank the GOON... oh no. Met 2 lovely ladies, Heather and Emma and agreed we'd go to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary tomorrow. New roomies very noisey and immature, woke up entire room about 3am by turing on lights, slamming doors etc. Not happy.
TUESDAY: I cuddled a koala! Ohmygosh the cutest thing ever. This place was honestly the coolest place EVER! You got to go in a huuuge outdoor compound and feed and play with kangaroos and 1 demon emu. Lots of other animals there as well and the staff did great talks about the sanctuary and how we can halp save the koalas. Learnt loads and exhausted camera battery. Result. Went back and invested in a box of goon. Drank far too much and then headed to local backpacker bar. Very messy but very fun. Didn't go abundle on the naked ladies in the wet t-shirt comp but the guys seemed to like it. Can't imagine why.....
WEDNESDAY: Bummed around all day, recovering from this awful headache. No idea where that came from... Had a look in all the shops and went to Southbank. It really is lovely! Got a job tomato picking, spoke to other backpackers and found out that tomato picking is the devels job and thw worst thing we could do. Quit tomato job and then went and celebrated with more beer, more partying in backpacker club and decided that tomorrow we were off to Surfers!
Pics to follow soon, my camera is currently in the camera hospital nooooo!
