Today is Sunday and apparently daylight saving time has started in the US, so I am now only 9 hours ahead instead of 10.
Yesterday I went to a wine festival in Paarl, one of the nearby wine towns, with some really nice Indian South African sisters I met at a comedy show a couple of weeks ago. It was a bit too hot for drinking wine, but the wine farms (that's what they call them here) were beautiful. Because of the festival there were special events - food and live music, etc. - at several of the places. It was a very nice day.
Afterwards, I went to their apartment to hang out and have a braai (barbecue). They live in a secured complex across from the largest mall on the continent. This mall - Canal Walk - is quite something. It puts most of the malls in the US to shame. I wrote to John that the gigantic food court looks like Las Vegas lit up at night! "Lifestyle" is very important to the minority of people here who are not living in poverty.
This week I'm continuing with my transition at work to assisting with marketing for Grassroute Tours. The woman I have been working with is very hesitant to let me move on, so we will see how it goes! I keep emphasizing that marketing experience is very important!
