Last week was interesting but very chaotic at work. I got thrown to the wolves a bit on Thursday when one of the employees was sick and I was asked to work at the desk in the Tourism Office at the V&A Waterfront. I had never been there before and had no idea what I was doing! Anyway, it was stressful but it turned out all right.
On Friday I went wine tasting with the rest of the interns and some American college students. Most of them had never been wine tasting before. We stopped at Tokara, a very nice winery in Stellenbosch, then went on to La Couronne in the Franschhoek area for a private tasting, cellar tour, and braai (barbeque with lots of meat!). The grounds at La Couronne are beautiful. I bought a few bottles of wine to supply my local cellar. The wine here seems like a good value for the money.
Saturday I went into Cape Town with Marion, my German housemate. The weather was great both Saturday and Sunday. We tried to go to Robben Island and up the Table Mountain Cable Car, but thousands of other people had the same idea. We ended up walking around and checking out the South African National Art Gallery. We also explored on of the malls in the suburbs. You really would think you were in the U.S. - the malls here are very upscale.
Sunday I went on a tour of the peninsula below Cape Town where there are many nice beaches and cute little towns. We also went to the Cape of Good Hope and saw the penguins nearby. Sunday was the sixth anniversary of the Warrens, so I coaxed Marion into going to a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant on the water. I had a glass of champagne for John - Cheers!
Today (Tuesday) I went to a Tourism Community Development Trust meeting with my supervisor. It was very inspiring. They have a lot of great projects going on. You can check the website out at tcdtrust.org.za.
