Today was an autobahn day!
We woke up at 4am, knowing we had reservations at a hotel in Munich tonight - thank goodness there's no speed limits! We started the day by driving back up to the town of Ribnitz-Damgarten, where our bags were being held at the police station. We got there by 7am... The police officers were so nice.... And ALL of our stuff was in our bags!!! Except plenty of cash, of course. But we had already written everything off, so it was like Christmas to get it all back!! Passport, train tickets, glasses, ALL of our chargers, travel books (Marty and Fred, your Italy book is safe and sound!), and a ton of other little things that we were so happy to have.
We then drove from north Germany all the way down to the medieval town of Nuremberg. Thanks to Dave Greder for recommending the town! Wish you could have joined us! We started by climbing to the top of an imperial castle, the Kaiserburg. This castle was basically the hub of the Roman Empire. We then walked toward downtown and into some really old churches, some of which were almost completely destroyed during WW2 then rebuilt. This town is where the Nazi party held a ton of mass rallies, and also where the Nuremberg trials were held post-WW2, which the allies did in part to spite them.
We stopped at a restaurant, Bratwursthäusle, that had a huge patio and delicious famous nürnberger bratwürste. Have I mentioned the weather has been PERFECT?? Sunny and warm, I can't believe it. We then walked through the bustling downtown plaza, the Hauptmarkt, enjoying some gelato and taking in the sights. Such an awesome old city.
We drove down to Munich, getting into our hotel pretty late. We're in southern Germany/Bavaria now.... We covered a LOT of ground for one day!
