Today we got to meet our relatives who live in northern Germany. So exciting!!
We drove a beautiful drive up to the quaint town of Bredenbek, in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, where our relatives live - Reimer, my dad's second cousin, and Reimer's wife Inga. We received such a kind welcome from them, and it was wonderful to sit and chat about life, history, countries, cultures and family. Reimer then took us on our own personalized tour of northern Germany- what a treat! We saw so much in one day.
First stop was a 3700 year old rock with chiseled hand prints in it. The rock was set in a huge old village grave. We then drove to the town of Quickborn, which is where my dad's grandma Emma grew up. Next stop was the adorable town of Burg, where we saw an old church, a beautiful cemetery, and where we had a delicious lunch. Wow, I can't believe how special this day was. Reimer drove us to a stop at the North Sea - so cool! The place we went next was the best of the day - the town of Tating, where my Great Grandpa Otto grew up. We got to see the exact house where he lived for a few years. And right behind the house was the most magnificent church I have ever seen. Our last stop of the day was to the precious town of Friedrichstadt - no family here, Reimer just knew we would love it, and he was right! We wandered the streets and walked by the little rivers, in awe that some people just get to live here and do this every day.
We headed back to Bredenbek, had a lovely dinner with the family and shared pictures. What incredible people, and what an amazing day!
