Howdie People, hope you are all well?
So here it is the long anticipated follow up to the first journal entry! We are currently on an Island just off of the East Coast of Thailand called Ko Samet. After leaving Bangkok and the dirt we were both looking forward to some much needed rest.
We arrived in Ko Samet on Tuesday evening after taking a 3 hour bus from Bangkok and then short ferry ride across the water. After arriving with no clue of where to go or stay we headed down the road, only to be greeted by a dusty dirt track! Needless to say we went exploring. This wasn't our best idea yet, darkness was setting in and the mosquito's were coming out to play.
A 15 minute walk later and endless times of being bitten we came to some bars and some accomodation. Wanting to get out of the mossie playground we took the first room we were offered, 2 beds, air con and a tv can't complain for about 7 pound each. Oh and we picked up 30 bites between us!
We have since moved on from our first room to slightly more humbling dwellings, no tv, a fan, a shower and a non flusing, toilet-roll-less bathroom!! However we can't complain for 4.50 a night.
Right lets get on to Ko Samet. This is one of the most beautiful islands I have been on. White sand, clear warm sea water and bars lining the beach. We have spent our days in the sun eating fresh fruit and getting burnt and our nights getting extremely drunk on pina colada's (Brainers choice I must add), sat on a beach under the stars. We have befriended the barmen at our local and also met some other friendly travellers. Every night we meet at TOK's bar where they offer the chance of a free drink on the toss of a coin. So far I think me and Brainer have won far more than we have lost, this is the reason we may stay here longer.
The island isn't a big island but there is plenty to do. Today we hired quad bikes and drove around the dusty tracks to a quiet beach on the other side. It has been amazing, great views on the way and the beach was stunning. Just to rub it in even more, it has been in the 90's here and today was spent on a beach in hammocks and swings. Can't ask for more than that hey.
Right I think that is enough for me today, our plans are to move on to another island on Tuesday and stay there for a couple of days but it is the Kings birthday so the whole of Thailand is off on holiday so we may stay put till they go back to work but who knows?
We hope everyone back home is well and let us know how the weather is looking back there!!!
Ciao for now x x
