Back to Paris after bidding our goodbyes to Emily, Andre, Nicolas & Anais. They had had a great family trip to India with Emily's parents & brother and we had enjoyed looking after their pets and home.
We caught our train to Paris at 10.35am and yep it left at 10.35am so efficient. The walk from the station to our hotel in Paris was freezing and wet, about 15 minutes we had forgotten what it was like to carry these bags. We dropped our bags at the hotel, no chance of an early check-in in Paris the hotels so strict about check-in 2pm and not a minute earlier its ridiculous.
I had opted for a refurbished hotel this time it was modern as opposed to our usual quirky old character cheapo hotel. The room was a cosy double and yep it was cosy, bed against the wall, however a great use of space considering, and all we needed for the night. We headed out to lunch, I finally got my favourite - Canard, and it was really yummy.
Tonight we headed to Le Caveau de la Huchette, known as the famous temple of swing since 1946. The history of this place dates back to long before 1551 where is was a secret meeting place. In 1789 and throughout the revolutionary period, under the sign of the Cave of Terror this was home to the clubs of Cordeliers and the Montagnards. The upper room was converted into a tavern where people would drink, sing and discuss freedom. There are numerous other rooms where judgments and excecutions took place.
Although steeped in dark history it is a cheerful place now with live music every night, we enjoyed an American Swing band and the dancing was Amazing, Rod & I were not keen to dance, this style was something I had never seen before and I was quite happy to watch, we chatted to a french guy who told us it was called hip swing. We watched for hours so entertaining. It also featured in the movie LA LA Land, where its a dream to open ones own Jazz Club.
The place emptied out around 11.30pm - must be so people could catch The Metro home, we walked back to our hotel - 2km's and it was freezing, the wind chill factor made it unbearable. We flopped into our cosy room that was warm.
