Have come down to the heel of the country to visit Lecce mainly but as we could find no campsites open, we ended up sleeping in a car park last night somewhere near the Adriatic coast. After much searching again this morning, in the light of day, we still couldn't find an open site so we headed west to the other coast to Gallipoli (not the Turkish town obviously) and it has been our saviour. We found a huge site for about 1,000 people but with only 3 of us there and 2 stray dogs, not very atmospheric but at least we have 5 loos each.
We have had a bit of a spate of campervan disasters what with the wing mirror still missing, close to running out of gas and no camping gas suppliers in sight and then the pump for our water breaking, i.e. for the wee sink we have in the van. But again, Gallipoli has come to our rescue, after being sent around town to a variety of gas/pump suppliers we finally found a shop that did the lot. It was actually the first shop we had been directed to but we managed to drive right past it and curse the terrible directions we'd been given, the shop was merely hiding behind a tree but we always assume the worst when we get directions from locals. Sorry Italy...
The man in the shop even knew where Aberdeen was, we managed to have so many conversations this afternoon with our new found Ital/Ger/French/Eng lingo we've invented, it definitely gets us by and makes us lots of friends in the process.
Tomorrow or Sunday we're heading over to Albania, there are no campsites there so we'll probably just spend the day there and then move on to Macedonia. Not that the camping situation is any better there mind you.
