Walked around a deserted Lecce today, lovely little historic quarter but didn't really get to sample the atmosphere as all of Italy goes into shut down mode around lunch time especially on a Sunday.
Made it to Bari and bought our ferry tickets by 6pm which gave us a couple of hours to grab food before boarding. Bari is lovely, we wished we'd had more time here, maybe we were lucky with the time of day but there were so many people out and about and we found a great place for food. All in all things were going swimmingly, then...
We turned up at the port at 9pm only to be made to wait for an hour and a half to get through customs. Still, we were looking forward to our own cabin on the ferry. Shame it was the size of a shoe box with a bathroom that hadn't been cleaned since 2003. Still, when the lights were off we didn't notice the room as much and we nodded off to sleep even before the ferry set sail, the beds were quite comfy, well as comfy as bunk beds can be. At 11pm the captain started the engine and we were off..and also wide awake. Quite why the boat had enough vibrations going through it to simulate an earthquake we're not sure but the sleep wasn't great, better than a chair though which was another option....
Up at 6am next day, couldn't stay in our shaky pits any longer.
