Things I have learned so far in France:
1. Now is the worst possible time to be an American and traveling. Everything is almost twice as expensive due to the dollar being so weak.
2. To order a latte in France you must say cafe creme(this makes number two on my list of important things to know when traveling. Also, it is less expensive to order the drink and have it at the bar than it is to order it and have it while sitting at a table.
3. Le Metro is the absolute best way to get around. Period. Anywhere. The States need to take a hint.
4. DO NOT smile at French men(this applies to women, men, do as you wish at your own risk.)
5. The French tend to enjoy their free time much more. Let me translate, the French seem to have free time to enjoy. Taking two hours for lunch to sit at a cafe and relax is normal.
6. While in a foreign country where you don't speak the language, get used to feeling uncomfortable. and awkward. Learn fast.
7. Cities are built on a circle grid, not a square. Good to know when attempting to get home at night.
8. French restaurants usually don't open until 7 or later for dinner. Snacks are a great idea to keep handy.
9. Pedestrians DO NOT have the right of way. The French DO NOT adhere well to traffic lights. Watch closely before stepping off of the sidewalk.
10. Be prepared to walk everywhere....and alot.
