Bonjour! This past weekend I took a mini adventure by train through the towns of Bayonne and Biarritz. They are on the coast of France and we had a great time! Bayonne is known for being the region where chocolate first began in France. We got there by train(quickly becoming one of my favorite ways of traveling. It is so relaxing and you don't have to pay for gas!) and arrived around 10:30. We had breakfast at a cafe where the waiter, upon finding out we were American, greeted us with "What up?!" It was very amusing. A typical breakfast in france is bread and juice. So we got the "maximum petit dejeuner(breakfast)" which consisted of a croissant, a baguette, butter, jam, a hot drink, and a glass of orange juice. For everyone who knows me, one of my favorite things about France is that they serve every drink, unless it's served hot, in a wine glass. I love it! We then proceeded through Bayonne in rain and cold to experience some of the best chocolate I've ever had :-) We boarded the train once again for about a 10 min. ride up to Biarritz which is directly on the coast and known for being a surf town. We didn't get to lay out but exploring the town was a ton of fun. We found some gorgeous beaches, climbed rocks jutting out from the coast, and experienced the best crepes so far at a little creperie where the people reminded me of many of the surf hippies found around Folly. Aside from the language barrier I felt right at home! (well, that and the 60 degree weather, but whatev). It was a laid back day with unexpected events and alot of fun!
