Day four: 80 miles
We woke up in our tres posh park. The shower facilities were just a marvel. We packed up during which time we ended up having a chat with a South African chap from London who was admiring Sheila and the trip. She continues to be popular and largely admired.
We then set off for Porthleven. Oh what an adorable little fishing town. I could have stayed there. I enjoyed tea by the harbour and then went to the craft market. Everybody was lovely. Of course Sheila was the star of the day. Everybody had noticed her when we pulled into the harbour. I met lots of lovely people. A lovely silver jeweller and his neighbour who makes fudge. Of course I had to get some fudge (oh and a pair of earrings, ssssshhhh!!) then I had a chat with Janice, she does amazing lampwork. I had to treat myself to one bead. One bead you say? It was more than extravagant, it cost as much as the earrings and that was already extravagant of me. However, I appreciate the craft so I am happy to support artists. She sent me on to Vanessa who I got on with like a house on fire. She is big into making ceramic buttons at the moment. She is very much like me, into so many different things bursting full of ideas. I only bought two buttons as I really could not justify buying anything else (but I shall be ordering online). I shall be keeping in touch with both ladies. Eventually I pulled myself away to continue with our journey but as promised we had to stop at the jeweller's and fudge man for them to properly admire Sheila.
From there our next port of call was Marazion and St Michael Mount. I decided not to cross over to St Michael Mount as the weather was looking a little iffy. I neded an ATM and surprisingly they had a free ATM. Slightly different to the ones we are used to. An ATM with a smile-you tap in your pin an d a man gives you your money but it is called a cash machine. Then we had a Cornish pasty and off we went to Penzance (no pirates, urrr, err). We then rode through and proceeded to Mousehole-another one that just had to be done. Sadly, it is so tiny and so popular that there was nowhere to stop to have a cuppa. It did look beautiful. So we proceeded to Lands End where the crowds waiting for Sheila to arrive, I mean for the air rescue helicopter to land as part of a sea rescue display day. After that watched a weird display of Goth's on a day out, I mean of the dance group Boekka, some sort of pagan tribute group. Weirdos if you ask me. Their whole repertoire consists of two steps - skipping and then some more skipping in goth attire. Drums weren't bad though. Allegedly they were on BGT but didn't get anywhere, not unsurprisingly. I then went to the furthest part and caught a glimpse of dolphins in the distance. Big schools of dolphins. What a day!!!! What a lucky girl!!!! Next on the menu was St Ives. The drive along the coast was amazing, the colours, the views, the tiny tiny lanes in part. All glorious.
Sadly we didn't stop as at this point we needed petrol rather urgently. According to my iPhone there are no petrol stations there so we headed for neighbouring Hayles. Once Sheila was filled up and happy again it was high time to find somewhere to stay. I found a site by the beach. Pitched up tent in 20 mins Including sorting out bed and all - I'm getting good at this. then I decided to head to the pub on site where I was promised entertainment for the evening. The thought of that was a little off-putting but I needed to charge up all my i-s (iPhone, iPad). As soon as I set off the heavens opened and I got drenched in the five minutes it takes from my tent to the pub. So now I am not only charging up all me i-s but waiting to get dry - my jacket in particular as it serves as my pillow. in the meantime the entertainment has started and I am actually enjoying it - a two man band doing all the golden oldies. Hopefully I shall dry out by the time they finish their set and it ought to have stopped raining by then. Am I glad I pitched my tent just in time!!! Mire tomorrow.
